The NBA Academy Africa boys team will be competing in the U-17’s tournament against leading European teams this week.

The tournament will take place in Szekesfehervar, Hungary and will host top teams from Spain, France, Italy, Croatia and the UK. The tournament tips-off this week (Nov. 8) with the NBA Academy Africa team taking on DjurgardenBasket (Sweden) in their first game on Nov. 9.

The NBA Academy Africa is an elite basketball training center in Thies, Senegal for the top male and female prospects from throughout Africa, the first of its kind on the continent.

The NBA partnered with SEED Project (Sports for Education and Economic Development), a non-profit organization based in Thies, Senegal, to help launch the NBA Academy Africa.

The team has been selected following scouting programmes from across the continent. Each academy member will receive elite basketball training, as well as being enrolled in a local high school and will receive academic support. The NBA Academy Africa builds on the NBA initiatives that exist in Africa including Jr. NBA and Basketball Without Borders.
