It seems that the dream of playing in the NBA has made the young player ready for everything, going as far as leaving the club with which he has a valid contract even if they can not reach an agreement with Minessota Timberwolves, the team which holds his NBA rights.
According to NBA rules, the maximum buy-out an NBA club can pay to get a player is $500.000 and the Timberwolves president is already in Spain negotiating with DKV Joventut but an agreement between the two sides seems far from realistic as Rubio's buy-out at the moment is more than 5 million euros, about $6.5 million.
In the meanwhile the player himself isn't trying to help the situation as he has self-excluded himself from his club saying that he does not believe he could play for Joventut again after everything that has happened while stating "I want to play in a winning team where I can achieve great things." Now if he thinks that he can win more games with Timberwolves that with DKV Joventut, well that's a whole another subject.
Of course there is interest in Rubio from Euroleague clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Unicaja too.
