Ricky Rubio has reportedly rejected the opportunity to join Panathinaikos, although the Greek club has categorically denied the report after being contacted by Eurohoops.
According to AS, Panathinaikos head coach Zeljko Obradovic personally reached out to the veteran point guard in an effort to convince him to move to Greece for the 2026-27 season.
The Spanish outlet also claims Panathinaikos offered Rubio a contract worth approximately €900,000 per season, significantly higher than his current salary with Joventut Badalona.
Despite the reported offer, Rubio is said to have informed the club that he is happy in Badalona and has no plans to leave.
After stepping away from basketball in 2024 and again in 2025 to prioritize his mental health, the 35-year-old reportedly wants to remain close to home as he continues his career in Spain.
Panathinaikos has been active during the offseason following Obradovic’s return, adding Isaac Bonga, Brancou Badio, and Guerschon Yabusele, while also securing Juancho Hernangomez on a contract extension through 2030.
