Last season’s success that head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius brought to Zalgiris has not been forgotten yet even though the new season has already begun.

Saras took Zalgiris to EuroLeague Final Four last season against all odds. It was only the second EuroLeague Final Four for Kaunas side. Despite being underdogs, Zalgiris managed to grab a win in Belgrade by beating historical rivals CSKA Moscow in a third-place game.

Such historical achievement was today officially acknowledged by Dalia Grybauskaite, the President of the Republic of Lithuania, who awarded Jasikevicius with the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas.

The Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas is the Lithuanian Presidential Award which was re-instituted to honour the citizens of Lithuania for outstanding performance in civil and public offices. Foreign nationals may also be awarded this Order. The Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas was instituted in 1928. It features the Columns of Gediminas, one of the national symbols of Lithuania (Source: Wikipekia).

Zalgiris will host KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz on October 12 to begin their campaign in EuroLeague for the 2018-2019 season.
