Henry Domercant: The Former Euroleague Players Raise the Level of EuroChallenge

Henry Domercant6`4 shooting guard of Spartak (St. Petersburg) Henry Domercant will make his third appearance in four years, in front of the Bulgarian audience in the upcoming game against Lukoil Academic on Tuesday from Group “I” schedule of FIBA EuroChallenge.

The Chicago native is one of the most popular players in the competition as he joined Spartak last summer straight from the Italian champion Montepaschi Siena.
Domercant has almost five seasons in the Euroleague with three different teams: Efes Pilsen, Olympiacos and Montepaschi. Today he is part of the favorite to win EuroChallenge and the experienced player looks like he is ready to have а great time with Spartak in the next few months. The team of Tzvika Sherf opponents in Group “I” are also the Israeli clubs Maccabi (Haifa) and Barak Netanya.

“This a really tough group with a lot of talented players. Anybody can win so.. I do not know who is the favorite, but I know that Lukoil Academic is a very strong team”, said the 30 years old guard before the game against the “Students”.

In 2010 Domercant signed three year deal with Spartak, but the team failed to reach the regular season of the EuroCup, losing in the qualifications to the Turkish topside Galatasaray.

“I think that EuroChallenge is a very strong competition with a lot of talented players this year and I am happy to be a part of it”, commented the former NCAA scoring leader with Eastern Illinois.

Last season in the Euroleague the Bosnia and Herzegovina international made 10.5 points per game and later on won the Italian championship with Montepaschi. But now it is a time to proof himself in some kind of specific mission, raising the level of basketball in FIBA EuroChallenge.

“The Euroleague is the Euroleague. This is the big stage, but there are many players who played in the Euroleague before and now are staying in EuroChallenge. I think that this is what raise the level of the tournament”, said Domercant who is the topscorer of Spartak in this year competition with 14.1 points per game.

Spartak will chase its second win in the Last 16 against Lukoil Academic. Last week Tzvika Sherf team edged Barak Netanya in Saint Petersburg 73-70 and the Bulgarian champion shocked Maccabi Haifa with 26-1 spurt in the last quarter for a 95-78 win on the road.
