Lietuvos Rytas found a replacement for the starting point guard Jerry Johnson who will be out for 6-7 weeks due to an injury. American point guard Khalid El-Amin became the latest addition to the team. The 31-year-old veteran spent last season in Ukraine with Budyvelnik Kyiv.
El-Amin averaged 20.5 points per game in Ukrainian league last season. Despite playing in Europe since 2001 El-Amin has never played for a major club and has no Euroleague experience. He has previously played for Strasbourg (France), Ironi Ramat Gan (Israel), Besiktas (Turkey), Azovmash (Ukraine), Turk Telekom (Turkey) and Budyvelnik (Ukraine).
Khalid El-Amin will not play on Wednesday in Istanbul against Fenerbahce Ulker but should be ready to play against Montepaschi the following week.
The primary target of Rytas was legendary point guard Sarunas Jasikevicius who is still without a club. However, the player decided not to sign a contract with his former club and will remain as a free agent.
