What would have been one of Serbia’s key components at this summer’s Eurobasket Nikola Jokic has decided that he will be unable to play, opting to look ahead to the new season with the Denver Nuggets.

Jokic met with Serbian national team coach Sasha Djordevic and informed him of his decision with Nuggets executives Tim Connelly and Alturas Karnisovas insisting that Denver have not influenced the 22-year-old’s overall choice.

The decision is mainly due to Jokic choosing to workout individually with the Nuggets staff in order to be in top physical shape for next season.

One of the breakout stars in the NBA last season, Jokic averaged 16.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists last season with Denver. Before that he totalled 9.1 points and six rebounds a game for Serbia at the Rio 2016 Olympics, leading them to a silver medal.
