Rudy Fernandez and Carlos Suarez are the two most desired players by Aito Garcia Reneses for Unicaja Malaga in order to reinforce the forward positions who are suffering by aging Carlos Jimenez and the departure of Jiri Welsch.

Both of them are of course extremelly difficult cases for the Malaguenos.

Half of the European powerhouses seem to be interested in Rudy, while the player himself and his NBA club are determined to wait for the NBA Draft to take place in the 24th of June in order to take further action.

Carlos Suarez is a long-lasting desire for Malaga as they also tried to bring him last summer. Suarez was the Spanish player with the highest index ranking in the ACB last season (17.7), he still has one year left on his contract with Estudiantes and a buyout of 2mil euros.

That is the glitch in his case for Malaga as they are not willing to pay such a sum. The only way for Estudiantes to enter negotiations in selling the player is if Suarez refuses to sign an extension to his current contract. This would mean that next summer Estudiantes only has the “derecho de tanteo” (right to equalize the highest offer to the player within 10 days), in which case it would probably be impossible to keep the player and would not get anything. Malaga are hoping that in fear of such a scenario, Estudiantes will drop their buyout demands.
