Sergio Scariolo reflected on coaching Rudy Fernandez following Spain’s final game in the Group A finale against Canada at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The match marked the end of Fernandez’s illustrious career, as the Spanish basketball legend had announced his retirement earlier this year.

Spain finished fourth in the group of death and was eliminated from the tournament.
Scariolo spoke highly of Fernandez, highlighting his perseverance and competitiveness throughout his career.
“I’ve been blessed to coach him,” Scariolo said, via Ben Golliver. “[I saw] him never giving up or surrendering to the physical gaps he had at the 3 position with any opponent he had to face during his career. He was so competitive and committed.”
Fernandez’s career with Spain is decorated with numerous achievements.
He won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics.
He also secured a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
