Spain veteran Felipe Reyes has decided to skip this summer’s Eurobasket tournament so that he can spend more time with his family in the off-season as he prepares for the 2017-18 season with Real Madrid.

The bronze medal Reyes captured with Spain at the 2016 Olympic Games looks likely to be his last international tournament as the 37-year-old misses this year’s European Championships to be with his wife as they prepare to welcome the birth of their second child.

“When you have children, the long stays away from the country become longer,” Reyes said to Spanish outlet Marca.

“Same thing last year, I missed my daughter so much. When you are celebrating your birthday you have to think more about your body than other things, even if your mind asks you for something else.
