Dallas Mavericks star Cooper Flagg has revealed that he has watched approximately 800 episodes of the popular anime series One Piece, despite claiming he is not particularly invested in anime.
During a recent interview, Flagg was asked about his interest in Japanese animation and whether he had explored older titles such as Neon Genesis Evangelion and Akira.
“How deep do you go with anime? Neon Genesis Evangelion? Do you go to like Akira? Like, how far back does…” the host asked.
Flagg explained that while he does not consider himself a major anime enthusiast, he has watched several well-known series.
“I’m not too deep into anime. Like, I’ve watched a good amount of animes. I’ve watched Attack on Titan, 800 episodes into One Piece.”
The host appeared surprised by the number of episodes Flagg had watched and asked him to clarify.
“Wait, like you’ve watched 800 episodes? That’s what it’s called?”
Flagg confirmed that he was referring to his progress through the series, which he began watching during high school.
“Yeah. There, no, no. I’m 800 episodes into it. So, there’s I think around 1,200 episodes. I’m 800 episodes in. I’ve been watching it since I was like a sophomore in high school. So, it’s just a show that I always go back to and like watch. Watch Naruto, Demon Slayer, all that.”
