Ergin Ataman has stepped down as head coach of the Turkish national side, the president of the country’s basketball federation Harun Ardency confirmed.

Ataman took charge of Turkey in 2014 and guided the side to Eurobasket 2015 where they were eliminated in the second round.

Ataman chose Galatasaray instead of the national team and we are going to continue our way with a different coach,” Ardency said in a press conference today.

The 50-year-old will now solely focus on his club duties with Galatasaray where he helped win them the EuroCup last season, automatically handing them a spot in this season’s EuroLeague.
