Utah Jazz forward Kyle Filipowski has shared a positive update on his health following offseason surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back.

Filipowski underwent the procedure after the conclusion of last season and has spent the summer working toward a return to basketball activities.

Speaking during the Jazz’s media day, the young big man explained that his condition has improved compared to the end of the previous campaign.

“I’m back to normal and better than where I was last year,” he said at media day. “The time to do the surgery was after the season, and I’ve been working hard all summer to get back and better.”

Despite his encouraging assessment, Filipowski has not yet been cleared to join his teammates for on-court practices.

He continues to work individually as part of his rehabilitation program, with the Jazz taking a cautious approach to his recovery.

Utah had initially expected Filipowski to be available for training camp, according to previous comments from president of basketball operations Austin Ainge.
