The Brooklyn Nets are keeping Day’Ron Sharpe in the frontcourt, as the 24-year-old center intends to sign a new two-year, $20 million contract with the franchise, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The deal comes after Brooklyn declined Sharpe’s team option, allowing the two sides to negotiate a new contract. The Nets made the same procedural move with Josh Minott, according to Charania, before reaching a new agreement with Sharpe.
Sharpe has spent his entire NBA career with Brooklyn after being selected 29th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft. Over five seasons, he has appeared in 253 games, averaging 7.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.6 blocks in 15.5 minutes per game.
His most productive season came in 2025-26, when Sharpe averaged 8.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 62 games. He shot a career-best 60.1% from the field while playing 18.7 minutes per night, including seven starts.
Sharpe’s efficiency was one of the strongest parts of his game. He converted 64.7% of his two-point attempts last season, although his outside shooting remained limited, as he made just 23.1% of his three-point attempts on 0.6 attempts per game.
The Nets finished the 2025-26 season with a 20-62 record, ranking 13th in the Eastern Conference. Despite the team’s struggles, Sharpe remained one of Brooklyn’s more consistent interior contributors, ranking third on the roster in total rebounds per game behind Nic Claxton and Michael Porter Jr.
Brooklyn’s frontcourt picture now includes Claxton, who averaged 11.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.1 blocks in 69 games last season, along with Sharpe as a backup center option. The Nets also selected frontcourt depth in the 2026 NBA Draft, taking Joshua Jefferson at No. 28 and Tyler Bilodeau at No. 43.
The Nets used the No. 6 overall pick on guard Mikel Brown Jr. and continued reshaping a young roster after a difficult season. Keeping Sharpe gives Brooklyn a familiar big man entering his age-25 season while maintaining continuity around its younger core.
