The Pistons were among the teams to express interest in a potential trade for Kawhi Leonard, but those talks have reportedly lost momentum because of Leonard’s long-term preferences.

According to reports, Leonard has indicated he would not sign a contract extension with Detroit, making the Pistons less inclined to pursue a deal for the veteran forward.

Toronto remains a more realistic destination if Leonard is moved.

The former Finals MVP is reportedly open to signing an extension with the Raptors, where he led the franchise to its first NBA championship in 2019.

Leonard is also believed to be willing to extend with the Spurs, though it remains uncertain whether San Antonio has interest in reuniting with the star after their split in 2018.

As extension preferences become a key factor in Leonard’s trade market, only a limited number of teams appear positioned to seriously pursue a deal if the Clippers decide to move him.
