New York Knicks head coach Mike Brown expressed surprise that OG Anunoby has only earned one All-Defense selection in his career, noting that his impact this season with the Knicks merits stronger recognition, Ian Begley of SNY writes.
The head coach highlighted Anunoby’s defensive flexibility as a major asset.
“His versatility is just off the charts and you can do a lot of things with your defense because of him,” Brown said. “In my opinion, he deserves First Team All-Defense this year – and hopefully the powers that be will see it that way, too.”
Anunoby shared that belief, saying he feels he has been deserving in the past and is aiming for that honor again this season.
“I think I should’ve gotten it last year. I think I should get it this year. That’s definitely a goal of mine, coming into the season, especially defensively, being on the first team or second team – hopefully first.”
Anunoby has played 9 seasons for the Raptors and Knicks. He has averaged 13.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in 556 regular-season games.
He has won 1 NBA championship.
