Giannis Antetokounmpo enters a pivotal offseason as the Milwaukee Bucks weigh their next steps following a challenging 2025-26 campaign. Despite being in the first year of a three-year, $175 million deal with a player option for the third year, reports suggest Giannis may explore opportunities elsewhere.
According to a segment on YES Network with Michael Scotto and Chris Shearn, Milwaukee could offer Giannis up to $275 million, but team struggles since their Finals appearance have raised questions about his future in the city. Scotto noted, “He’s got 275 million reasons to stay in Milwaukee… However, he’s been unhappy obviously with the trajectory of his team.”
The Bucks’ roster presents potential trade pieces, including Bobby Portis, Myles Turner, and Kyle Kuzma, which could facilitate a rebuild if Giannis opts to leave. Coaching uncertainty further complicates the situation, with Doc Rivers’ return still unconfirmed.
Scotto emphasized the broader NBA implications, pointing to Miami, Golden State, New York, and Cleveland as likely suitors. “There’s going to be a lot of suitors for Giannis ultimately. That’s a transformational player. The picks are gonna be there,” he said. Each franchise could use the superstar to accelerate championship windows, with the Cavaliers’ young core led by Evan Mobley particularly noted as a potential fit.
Milwaukee is currently 30-47, ranking 11th in the Eastern Conference, already eliminated from playoff contention. Giannis averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists over 36 games while battling injuries, including a left knee hyperextension and bone bruise sustained in mid-March.
The upcoming offseason promises significant movement in Milwaukee and potentially across the league. If Giannis decides to leave, the Bucks could enter a full rebuild, moving key players and accumulating draft assets. Conversely, a commitment to stay could solidify Milwaukee as the focal point for a renewed championship pursuit.
