The Memphis Grizzlies signed forward Dariq Whitehead to a 10-day contract, NBA insider Shams Charania reported on Thursday, April 2. Whitehead, a former first-round pick by the Brooklyn Nets, has spent the 2025-26 season with the Oklahoma City Blue in the G League.
Whitehead, 21, played 22 games for Brooklyn across the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons, averaging 5.7 points in 12.3 minutes per game last year. In the G League this season, he has averaged 11.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists over 23.7 minutes per game for the Blue.
The Grizzlies are facing a depleted roster due to injuries to several key players. Ja Morant, Zach Edey, Santi Aldama, Brandon Clarke, Ty Jerome, and others are sidelined, leaving Memphis with limited depth at forward and guard positions.
Whitehead, a 6-foot-7 Montverde Academy and Duke product, was the 22nd overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. He brings athleticism and shooting ability that Memphis hopes can contribute immediately. His shooting percentages in the G League include 32.6% from three and 36.7% overall from the field.
Memphis has struggled this season, posting a 25-51 record, sitting 11th in the Western Conference. The team’s depleted lineup has made adding depth a priority as the season winds down.
The 10-day contract gives the Grizzlies flexibility to evaluate Whitehead in live NBA games while covering for injured starters.
The Grizzlies are scheduled to play the Toronto Raptors on Friday, April 3, a matchup where Whitehead could make his debut.
