Orlando Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley highlighted his team’s intensity and focus following a 136-131 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday at Rocket Arena. “I’m proud of how hard they played tonight for 48. I mean, there was intensity, there was urgency, there was a focus level to them,” Mosley said during his postgame press conference.
The coach acknowledged the challenges his squad faced against stars Donovan Mitchell and James Harden. “You have to give Cleveland more than a ton of credit for how they played. I mean, you have a Hall of Famer and two Hall of Famers over there that had an unbelievable shot making towards the end of the game,” he said.
Mosley stressed the importance of sustaining effort and energy down the stretch of the season. “That same type of effort and energy… our ability to sustain that effort, be resilient no matter what’s happening within the game,” he said, emphasizing urgency and focus in the remaining ten games.
Addressing defensive adjustments, Mosley noted the difficulty in containing elite shooters. “It’s tough. There were times we got it out of their hands and then they swing it to Sam Merrill and he did an unbelievable job… we’ve got to continue to make sure we’re communicating at the highest level, making sure we’re physical without fouling,” he said.
The Magic played without four of their top defenders, but Mosley maintained that standards remain unchanged. “Our standard is always going to be our standard no matter who’s on the floor… our ability to get stops, to get out and run, not just trying to score the ball, but in our guys’ urgency, intent and focus to get the job done,” he said.
Mosley also praised Jamal Cain, who made his first start of the season. “I thought he was excellent. He did all the small things within this game. Offensive rebounds, block shots, defending some of the tougher players… his care factor is just so high that all he’s trying to do is the right thing for this team in order to get a win,” he said.
Despite Orlando dropping its sixth straight game, Mosley emphasized a constructive outlook. “If we continue to play with a level of urgency and intent this way, we’re giving ourselves a chance every single night and then we’ll come out on the other side of it,” he said.
The Magic will aim to bounce back at home against the Sacramento Kings on Thursday, while the Cavaliers host the Miami Heat on Wednesday.
