Luka Doncic of the Los Angeles Lakers was assessed a technical foul late in the third quarter of Saturday’s game in Orlando after an exchange with Goga Bitadze (Twitter video link).

It marked his 16th technical of the season, which could lead to an automatic one-game suspension if it’s not rescinded, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin (Twitter link).

The suspension would be served on Monday against the Detroit Pistons.

Reaching that threshold also puts Doncic at risk for further suspensions, as every two additional technicals will result in another one-game ban.

Doncic, known for his emotional play, was fined $50K earlier this month for making an “inappropriate and unprofessional gesture” toward an official.

He becomes the second player this season to reach 16 technicals, joining Dillon Brooks.

The potential suspension comes as Doncic is playing at a high level and the Lakers are pushing for playoff positioning.
