Bam Adebayo scored 28 points with 10 rebounds in Miami’s 134-126 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday at Kaseya Center. Addressing the team’s defensive performance, he said, “We got to give more. I feel like we take the foot off the gas every once in a while when we get up… those are the moments coach be talking about like we need to swing and push it to 20.”
Adebayo analyzed the team’s recent struggles compared to a prior seven-game win streak. “They only had 11 turnovers,” he noted. “We was getting teams in the high teams 15 to 17 to 19 and pushing the pace,” highlighting Miami’s difficulty forcing mistakes in recent games.
On his physical condition, Adebayo reflected on returning from a calf issue, stating, “I felt good out there. I feel like I could have did my free throws. Other than that, it’s that time of the year… you’re going to have to figure out how to make your body feel okay.”
The All-Star center also addressed Luka Doncic’s historic 60-point performance, saying, “He made some tough shots. You tip your hat off and you keep it pushing.” He acknowledged the challenge of defending such a dominant performance while maintaining team focus.
Adebayo commented on teammate Norman Powell’s role off the bench, observing, “Norm sacrifice, he’s coming off the bench… it doesn’t matter about coming off the bench at the end of the day ’cause you’re getting like Lou Will minutes.” He emphasized the importance of role players contributing both offensively and defensively.
Reflecting on Miami’s inconsistency, Adebayo stated, “It’s frustrating because we’ve beaten some of the top teams in each conference, but we’ve also at some point lost to the worst teams in both conferences… we got to hit another gear and get out of this playing.”
The Heat fell to 38-32, remaining eighth in the Eastern Conference, while the Lakers improved to 45-25.
