Memphis Grizzlies point guard Scotty Pippen Jr. will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 NBA season, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto. Pippen, 25, is scheduled to undergo a sesamoidectomy to address persistent discomfort in his right big toe.
Pippen has averaged 11.4 points, 4.7 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.4 steals over three seasons with the Grizzlies, shooting 48 percent overall and 39 percent from three-point range. He appeared in 10 games this season, starting six, and logged 21.2 minutes per contest.
The loss comes amid a difficult stretch for Memphis, which currently holds an 11th-place position in the Western Conference with a 23-42 record. The Grizzlies have already been without key contributors this season, including Ja Morant (elbow), Zach Edey (ankle), and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (finger), all sidelined for extended periods.
Memphis also faced injuries to Santi Aldama, Cedric Coward, Cam Spencer, Ty Jerome, Walter Clayton, and Taj Gibson in recent games, limiting rotations and placing additional pressure on the remaining roster. Pippen’s absence further depletes the backcourt depth for a team struggling to maintain consistency in the final stretch of the regular season.
The timing of the surgery effectively ends any chance for Pippen to return in time for Memphis’s push to climb in the Western Conference standings. With the team 28 games under .500, the Grizzlies’ focus now shifts toward player development and evaluation for the 2026 offseason.
