FIBA released its updated men’s world rankings on Thursday following the second window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Qualifiers, with the United States maintaining the top position. The latest standings show minimal movement at the top, but the margin between several contenders has narrowed significantly.
According to FIBA, the United States remain No. 1 with 893.8 points after advancing to the second round of the Americas qualifiers. Germany hold the No. 2 spot with 817.2 points, while Serbia sits third at 808.8.
France ranks fourth with 807.7 points and Canada follows closely in fifth with 806.0. The gap separating those three nations is fewer than three points, setting up a tight race heading into the next qualification window.
Australia occupies sixth place with 778.5 points, while Spain remains seventh with 774.6. Argentina ranks eighth at 755.5 points, maintaining its position among the world’s top teams.
Lithuania sits ninth with 750.124 points, narrowly ahead of Brazil, which is tenth with 750.122. The difference between those two teams is only 0.002 points, one of the smallest margins in the rankings.
Turkiye holds the No. 11 position with 742.9 points. Greece moved up one place to No. 12 after defeating Montenegro and advancing to the second round of the European qualifiers.
Latvia dropped one spot to No. 13 following consecutive losses to Poland during the qualification window. Slovenia remains No. 14, while Italy rounds out the top 15.
Puerto Rico ranks 16th with 653.4 points, narrowly ahead of Finland at 17th with 653.1. Montenegro sits in 18th place with 620.3 points.
Poland, boosted by recent results, occupies the No. 19 spot with 595.1 points. Georgia completes the top 20 with 557.4 points.
Several teams outside the top tier also improved their standing. New Zealand climbed one place to No. 24 after securing two road wins against the Philippines and Guam in the Asian qualifiers.
China also moved up, reaching No. 26 after victories in away games against Japan and Chinese Taipei. Israel recorded the largest jump inside the top 50, rising four places to No. 27 following back-to-back wins over Cyprus.
Côte d’Ivoire became the highest-ranked African team to move up in the standings, reaching 38th place after opening the African qualifiers unbeaten through three games.
Madagascar recorded the largest rise within the top 100, jumping nine positions to No. 94, while Jamaica advanced eight spots despite losses during the qualification window.
Uganda also posted a notable improvement, moving from 90th to 83rd after a competitive 84–73 loss to Mali in African qualifying play.
FIBA’s ranking system evaluates national team results over an eight-year cycle, with games in official competitions and qualifiers carrying different weight. The next update could bring further movement as teams continue the road to the 2027 World Cup.
