Injuries give Nate Williams bigger scoring role

With several players sidelined, Golden State Warriors two-way guard Nate Williams saw extended minutes on Monday and made the most of the opportunity, Sam Gordon of The San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Williams played nearly 22 minutes and delivered a career-high 18 points, knocking down three of his four attempts from three-point range while also spending stretches defending Kawhi Leonard.

His performance could earn him a larger role as the team continues to deal with injuries.

“I’m just being myself and the team allows me to do that,” Williams said.

“I give all thanks to (Steve Kerr) and the coaching staff for giving me an opportunity. They just let me be myself and they just put me on game as I go along.”

Williams has played 4 seasons for the Rockets, Warriors, and Trail Blazers. He has averaged 4.2 points in 49 regular-season games.
