Detroit Pistons second-year wing Ron Holland has struggled from long range this season, making just 22.7 percent of his three-point attempts.
Despite that low percentage, the coaching staff does not want him to hesitate when he gets open opportunities, Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Head coach J.B. Bickerstaff explained that Holland’s overall impact on the game is what matters most.
As long as he continues attacking the rim, defending and playing with energy, the team is comfortable with him taking open perimeter shots when they come.
“His open shot is the best shot,” Bickerstaff said. “We want him to believe that, if he’s doing the other things. His strength is putting pressure on the rim, and if he’s not doing that and just settling for jumpers, then he’s not maximizing his opportunities.
“But if he’s driving, he’s attacking, he’s defending, he’s running, the ball finds him in the corner, it’s an open shot, that shot is the best shot for us.”
Holland has played 2 seasons for the Pistons. He has averaged 7.2 points and 3.4 rebounds in 137 regular-season games.
