Real Madrid delivered one of its most complete performances of the season on Thursday night, overpowering FC Bayern Munich 93-70 at the Movistar Arena to strengthen its EuroLeague playoff push.
Just four days after losing the Copa del Rey final to Kosner Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, Madrid responded with authority, improving to 18-11 and consolidating fourth place in the standings.
Madrid shot 64.3% inside the arc (18/28), 45.5% from three (15/33), and 92.3% at the line, combining efficiency with ball movement for 28 assists on 33 made field goals.
The hosts set the tone early by attacking the paint and finished the first quarter up seven, before exploding to a 20-point halftime lead behind disciplined defense and quick decision-making.
By the third quarter, the margin had ballooned to 31 points, effectively ending the contest.
Mario Hezonja led the charge with 16 points and a game-high 19 PIR in under 20 minutes, epitomizing Madrid’s depth and balance.
Walter Tavares added 11 points and four rebounds, while Trey Lyles chipped in 12 as 11 different Madrid players scored.
Madrid also dominated the glass, outrebounding Bayern 38-31 and protecting the rim with five blocks.
Bayern, now 12-17 and 15th in the standings, struggled to generate consistent offense despite entering the game having won four of its previous five EuroLeague outings.
Justinian Jessup scored 17 points to lead the visitors, but the German side shot just 6-for-21 from three-point range and trailed by double digits for most of the night.
Madrid will look to carry this momentum into next Thursday’s clash with Virtus Bologna, while Bayern travels to face Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade next Friday.
