Domantas Sabonis underwent season-ending surgery Wednesday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, officially ending his campaign after an injury that had already disrupted much of his season.
Sabonis initially attempted to rehab the issue and returned to play, but continued complications ultimately required a surgical solution.
Despite drawing interest ahead of the trade deadline, the Sacramento Kings chose to keep him on the roster.
In 19 appearances this season, Sabonis averaged 15.8 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists while playing 29.7 minutes per game.
His player efficiency rating declined to 18.7 after posting a 22.6 mark last season, reflecting a more limited year impacted by injury.
Sabonis remains under contract with Sacramento through the 2027-28 season, keeping him as part of the franchise’s long-term plans despite the setback.
The Kings currently hold the NBA’s worst record, positioning them to select no lower than fifth overall in June’s draft.
