Miami Heat guard Norman Powell is experiencing a unique situation this season, as his debut year with Miami also coincides with the final season of his current contract.
Despite the uncertainty that often comes with an expiring deal, Powell has made it clear that he hopes his future remains tied to the Heat organization.
In what has already become a memorable campaign, the veteran shooting guard earned his first All-Star selection during his first season in Miami, marking a major milestone in his career.
“This is definitely a place that I want to be,” Powell said about staying with the Heat beyond this season.
“It’s been nothing but great. Coming here getting adjusted, the organization has been amazing. I love where I’m at. I love the setup. I love the mentality. I love the approach. It has been, honestly, a super easy transition because I feel like everybody in the organization has the same mentality I have of pushing yourself to achieve the best and be the best version of yourself. It’s been fun.”
Powell is currently completing the five-year, $90 million contract extension he initially signed with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Interestingly, he never appeared in a game for Portland under that agreement, as the team traded him to the LA Clippers before the deal truly began.
Powell then spent four seasons contributing to the Clippers before being moved once again, this time to Miami during the offseason.
Now in his 11th NBA season, Powell’s journey has included several stops, beginning with the Toronto Raptors, where he played the first five-plus years of his professional career and helped establish himself as a reliable scoring guard.
