The Minnesota Timberwolves dominated the short-handed Atlanta Hawks 138-116 after a second-quarter burst on Monday night.
Anthony Edwards led the Wolves with 30 points to push his team to a win after two losses against the Pelicans and the Clippers. Julius Randle added 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists.
Meanwhile, Mouhamed Gueye appeared to trip up Wolves center Naz Reid, as the two came together in an altercation that included a crowd of people trying to break up the two players. Both players were ejected.
Hawks’ CJ McCollum finished with 38 points, who have lost four of five and were playing without Jalen Johnson (left knee inflammation), Dyson Daniels (right ankle inflammation), and newly acquired Jonathan Kuminga (left knee bone bruise).
Nickeil Alexander-Walker had 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Hawks against his former team.
Johnson was named the Eastern Conference player of the week for the second time this season, as Kuminga has not played since the trade from the Warriors for Kristaps Porzingis.
Despite McCollum already dropping 18 points in the first, the Wolves used a 40-18 run from the end of the first to midway through the second for a 79-52 advantage.
Both teams will play on Wednesday: the Hawks play road game at Charlotte, while Minnesota hosts the Trail Blazers.
