Bucks shut down Giannis Antetokounmpo trade talks

The Milwaukee Bucks have notified rival teams that Giannis Antetokounmpo is no longer available in trade discussions, with the organization shifting its attention toward other potential moves ahead of the deadline.

The Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat, and New York Knicks were the most active teams in talks with Milwaukee regarding Antetokounmpo.

Golden State’s decision to pivot late Wednesday night and acquire Kristaps Porzingis served as the first strong indication that a Giannis deal was unlikely. Minnesota followed suit Thursday morning by completing a separate trade for Ayo Dosunmu.

Milwaukee continues to hope Antetokounmpo remains with the franchise long term, a stance that could be influenced by the results of the draft lottery in May.

The Bucks may revisit trade possibilities in the offseason, but for now have taken their star off the market. Antetokounmpo will be eligible for a contract extension with Milwaukee in October.
