Following the decision to trade Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz, the Memphis Grizzlies are expected to intensify their efforts to move Ja Morant and are willing to lower their previous asking price, sources told Kelly Iko of Yahoo Sports.
Memphis has accepted that the player, once viewed as the face of the franchise and a true superstar, will not command a return comparable to what the team received for Jackson or Desmond Bane.
With Morant now available at a reduced cost, teams such as the Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat could preserve much of their asset base for a potential pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks.
Sources said the Heat would be open to offering Morant an extension at his desired number if they were to acquire him.
The Grizzlies have also shown interest in serving as a facilitator in any Antetokounmpo deal.
Memphis previously explored the possibility of landing Mike Conley Jr. in a multi-team trade involving Milwaukee, but that avenue closed when Minnesota completed a separate deal Tuesday with the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons.
Morant’s trade value has dipped due to a combination of injuries, off-court issues, and a downturn in on-court production. This season, he is averaging 19.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 8.1 assists.
