Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham addressed his ongoing wrist issues following Sunday’s 139-116 win over the Sacramento Kings at Little Caesars Arena. “It’s been a battle mentally as far as figuring out how I could help us, with not liking how I felt shooting, and just constantly flinching when I was shooting,” he said.
Cunningham admitted the injury affected his confidence but highlighted the positives. “I didn’t know how I would feel because it was hurting sometimes. Sometimes, I would be able to release, and the ball would come out fine,” he explained.
Despite the challenge, Cunningham viewed the game as an opportunity for growth. “It took some time, but I thought it was great reps for me. I think it was a great experience as far as trying to find ways to help the team,” he said.
Cunningham led Detroit with 29 points and 11 assists, recording a double-double as the Pistons improved to 33-11 on the season. Jalen Duren added 18 points, and Tobias Harris contributed 16, helping the team rebound from a home loss to the Rockets on Friday.
The Pistons surged early, outscoring Sacramento 43-30 after a 35-35 tie in the first quarter, setting the tone for their dominant performance. Detroit shot 55% from the field and 52% from three-point range while controlling the boards 55-52.
For Sacramento, Malik Monk led with 19 points, and DeMar DeRozan added 16, but the Kings fell to 12-35 with their fifth straight loss. Domantas Sabonis, returning from a two-month absence, recorded 12 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists in 24:44.
Cunningham’s ability to play through discomfort provided stability for Detroit. His poise and decision-making were critical in maintaining momentum against a team missing key starters and integrating a returning Sabonis.
The Pistons will travel to Denver on Tuesday, while Sacramento heads to New York, seeking to end their losing streak. Detroit’s recent stretch, with five wins in six games, has reinforced their top-seed position in the Eastern Conference.
