Sacramento Kings star Russell Westbrook shared his gratitude after Wednesday’s 122-109 loss to the Toronto Raptors, an evening highlighted by a tribute video celebrating his career.

“Just gratitude. I’m grateful. It’s a unique thing when you have family and close friends support your journey… I wouldn’t be here without them,” Westbrook said following the game at Golden 1 Center.

Westbrook described the tribute as an emotional first. “A little bit. First time for me, I never experienced that. I’m extremely grateful to the Kings organization to put something like that together and show how they appreciate what I’ve done for the game,” he added.

Reflecting on the game itself, Westbrook noted Sacramento’s defensive struggles in the second half. “We didn’t stick to our game plan. I thought the first half we did a great job. Second half, not so much, and the third quarter wasn’t a great quarter for us,” he said.

The veteran point guard emphasized the importance of defensive communication. “We were running zone mostly the whole game… getting back set, matching, and communicating. Once I look at film, I’ll be able to give a better answer on that,” Westbrook said.

Westbrook also addressed the Kings’ young players and their development. “It’s good. I think it’s important that they learn, watch, and understand the game. They’re going to be around for a long time, and I’m happy to be here to help in any way I can,” he said.

Toronto’s dominant third quarter, a 43-21 run led by Scottie Barnes, turned a nine-point halftime deficit into a decisive victory. Barnes scored 14 of his 23 points in the period, while Brandon Ingram and Sandro Mamukelashvili added 23 and 22 points respectively. Immanuel Quickley chipped in 18 points and eight assists for the Raptors.

For Sacramento, Westbrook led the scoring with 23 points on 9-of-22 shooting. Zach LaVine added 19 points and five assists, while Malik Monk contributed 17 points off the bench. The Kings played without Domantas Sabonis, who was rested after three consecutive games following a 27-game absence.

The loss marked Sacramento’s third straight defeat, dropping the team to 12-32. Toronto improved to 26-19, maintaining fourth place in the Eastern Conference. The Raptors continue their road trip in Portland Friday, while the Kings travel to Cleveland to face the Cavaliers.
