Recent reports from ESPN and The Athletic have suggested that the Golden State Warriors have not held meaningful trade discussions with the Brooklyn Nets regarding Michael Porter Jr.
Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area echoes that sentiment, noting that Golden State has been hesitant to seriously pursue Porter and indicating that outside speculation may have exaggerated the level of the Warriors’ interest.
Johnson adds that even if Golden State were to explore a deal more aggressively, a direct two-team framework appears unlikely.
Brooklyn has little interest in taking back Jonathan Kuminga, meaning any potential transaction would probably have to involve a third team to make the pieces fit.
However, not all reporting aligns with that cautious outlook.
Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com cites sources who paint a more active picture, suggesting the Warriors are indeed interested in Porter and may have “something brewing” involving the 27-year-old as the February 5 trade deadline approaches.
Afseth notes that Porter is in the midst of a career-best season in Brooklyn, and league scouts believe his production and skill set could translate well to virtually any contender looking for a reliable veteran forward.
