Two-way contracts come with a built-in limitation, as players are only allowed to be active for up to 50 regular-season games. For the Dallas Mavericks, that threshold is starting to come into focus with Moussa Cisse and Ryan Nembhard.

Cisse has already appeared in 34 games, while Nembhard sits at 33, putting both on pace to reach their maximum eligibility sometime in February.

Coach Jason Kidd said the organization is well aware of the situation and keeping a close eye on the numbers as the season progresses.

“We’re tracking it carefully,” Kidd said. “We dealt with this same thing last year, so we know exactly where those dates land if they keep playing. That experience helps us manage it better this time around.”

One way for Dallas to remove the 50-game cap would be to convert either Cisse or Nembhard to a standard NBA contract. However, that option isn’t simple at the moment.

The Mavericks don’t currently have an open roster spot, and their financial flexibility is limited with the team operating close to the second-apron hard cap.

As a result, any decision will require careful planning rather than a quick fix.
