Ryan Nembhard is making a strong case to be part of Dallas’ long-term plans after having his two-way contract upgraded to a standard deal last month.
The rookie point guard finished the season impressively, dishing out 23 assists on Sunday – a new Mavericks record for a regulation game, per the team (Twitter link).
Dallas also holds a $2.2MM team option on Nembhard for next season.
Off the court, the Mavericks significantly improved their financial situation following February’s trade that sent Anthony Davis to Washington, according to Bobby Marks of ESPN.
Although Dallas won’t have cap room this summer, moving below the apron opens the door to using the non-taxpayer mid-level and bi-annual exceptions.
The team is currently about $38MM under the luxury tax and $45MM below the first apron.
Marks also highlighted Dereck Lively II, Max Christie, and Naji Marshall as players who could be in line for contract extensions.
