The Dallas Mavericks have stumbled to a 15–25 record and are now dealing with the possibility of an extended absence from Anthony Davis due to a hand injury.
Despite the disappointing season and mounting health concerns, there has been no serious internal discussion about shutting down Kyrie Irving for the remainder of the year, sources told Grant Afseth of Dallas Hoops Journal.
Irving has spent most of the past year rehabbing from an ACL tear suffered last March.
Although the Mavericks have yet to announce a specific timetable for his return, the prevailing expectation is that the veteran guard remains on track to play sometime after the All-Star break.
According to Afseth, Irving’s recent on-court work has been encouraging.
During last week’s road trip, he completed a full workout with assistant coach Phil Handy, appearing sharp and explosive while moving through drills designed to mimic game conditions.
Afseth reported that Irving showed no visible hesitation throughout the session.
