Rudy Gobert is set to serve a one-game suspension after reaching the NBA’s threshold for flagrant foul points, putting the Minnesota Timberwolves without their starting center for their next matchup.

Gobert has now accumulated six flagrant points, a total that automatically results in a suspension under league rules. His record includes four Flagrant 1 fouls and one Flagrant 2.

The final point that triggered the penalty came Sunday against the San Antonio Spurs. Gobert was assessed a flagrant for a reckless closeout on Victor Wembanyama during a three-point attempt.

Wembanyama came down on Gobert’s foot after releasing the shot, leading officials to review the play and upgrade the call.

As a result, Gobert will be unavailable for Minnesota’s game Tuesday against the Milwaukee Bucks. The suspension serves as a warning point as well, since any additional flagrant fouls before the postseason would escalate the penalty to a two-game ban.

The league’s system does offer a reset, however. Once the playoffs begin, Gobert’s flagrant foul counter will return to zero, giving him a clean slate heading into the postseason.

Until then, Minnesota will need to navigate carefully, knowing that further incidents could lead to more significant absences from one of their most important defensive anchors.
