With Trae Young’s money coming off the ledger for next season, the Atlanta Hawks are widely viewed as still very much in the mix for Anthony Davis.
Speaking Wednesday night on NBA Countdown, Shams Charania of ESPN indicated that Atlanta’s front office remains active in monitoring potential pathways to a deal involving the Dallas Mavericks big man.
From a logistical standpoint, assembling a workable trade package is complicated by league rules.
As noted by John Hollinger of The Athletic, the Hawks are unable to combine the salaries of CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert in a follow-up trade before the February 5 deadline.
That restriction narrows Atlanta’s options considerably.
Given Davis’ $54.1 million salary, any serious offer would likely need to be anchored by expiring contracts.
The most practical starting points would be Kristaps Porzingis at $30.7 million and Luke Kennard at $11 million, with additional salary required to fully bridge the gap.
In that scenario, Atlanta could also be forced to include rookie forward Zaccharie Risacher, who carries a $13.2 million figure, to make the numbers work.
