After building his reputation in Europe, Guerschon Yabusele is now in his fourth NBA season as a member of the New York Knicks.

His professional path has been anything but straightforward, starting with two years in Boston from 2017 to 2019 before a season in China and a return to Europe with ASVEL.

His career took another step forward at Real Madrid, where he became one of the EuroLeague’s standout players.

That level of play sparked ongoing discussion about a long-term future in Europe, especially as more NBA veterans have crossed back overseas.

Yabusele has pushed back on that idea, stressing that his priorities are still tied to staying in the NBA.

In an interview with French YouTuber Just Riadh, Yabusele outlined why the league’s long-term benefits matter so much to him.

He explained that reaching certain service thresholds unlocks a lifetime pension and medical coverage, with full family coverage available after five seasons.

With only one more year needed to reach that mark, he said the security it provides is a major factor in his decision-making.

Yabusele returned to the NBA after a strong season with Real Madrid, first joining the Philadelphia 76ers before eventually signing with New York.

His role with the Knicks has been limited, as he averages 3.2 points and 2.2 rebounds in 30 appearances, and is mostly used as depth rather than a central part of the rotation.
