When Cam Thomas agreed to a qualifying offer with the Brooklyn Nets in early September, the decision set him up to hit unrestricted free agency once the season concludes.

That contract structure means Thomas will be free to choose his next destination, and at least one prominent NBA voice believes he will be a major value pickup for whoever lands him.

Kevin Durant, now starring with the Houston Rockets, spoke glowingly about Thomas’ long-term outlook, according to Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype.

Durant emphasized that high-level scorers are sometimes overlooked compared to defenders and facilitators, even though consistent shot creation remains one of the league’s most difficult and valuable skills.

He suggested that Thomas simply needs an organization willing to commit to him, give him responsibility, and allow his offensive game to flourish within a system designed around his strengths.

Durant also pointed out Thomas’ age, noting that at just 24, there is still plenty of runway for development and improvement.

So far this season, Thomas has continued to show why that confidence exists.

Even though he sat out Friday’s game against Washington for rest, the young guard is averaging 21.4 points per game through his first 11 appearances, reinforcing the idea that his scoring ability could become even more impactful in the right situation.
