The Pistons suffered only their seventh loss of the season Friday night, falling 131–129 to the Jazz, but the way it happened clearly frustrated the team.
Utah poured in 44 points during the third quarter, a stretch that Detroit coach J.B. Bickerstaff pointed to as the turning point.
Speaking afterward, he expressed disappointment with his team’s defensive focus and overall execution, saying the performance didn’t reflect their identity.
He emphasized that giving up that many points in a single quarter simply isn’t acceptable and noted that the group lacked sharpness from the opening moments, despite usually responding well to the demands placed on them.
Cade Cunningham echoed that sentiment, agreeing that the team fell short of its own expectations.
He acknowledged that the level of play didn’t meet their internal standards and stressed that the group knows it is capable of much more.
Cunningham added that the Pistons need to take a step back, identify what broke down defensively, and make the necessary adjustments moving forward, emphasizing that improvement has to come quickly.
