Domantas Sabonis continues to make progress in his recovery from a partially torn meniscus in his left knee, but the Kings say he will remain out for at least another four to five weeks before being reevaluated.
The update comes more than a month after Sabonis first went down, extending his absence well into January.
The injury dates back to a November 16 game in San Antonio, after which an MRI revealed the meniscus tear.
Sacramento initially planned to reassess him within three to four weeks, but the latest timetable confirms a longer recovery.
Sabonis has already missed 16 games and will be unable to reach the 65-game threshold required for major postseason awards, officially ruling him out of All-NBA consideration.
Even so, Sabonis’ résumé remains strong. The 29-year-old has led the league in rebounds per game in each of the past three seasons and earned three All-Star selections and two All-NBA nods during that span.
In 11 appearances this season, he averaged 17.2 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in just over 33 minutes per game.
His name has surfaced in trade speculation, but an in-season move appears unlikely. Even in a best-case scenario, Sabonis would not return until mid-January, leaving limited time before the February 5 trade deadline.
With both Sabonis and backup center Drew Eubanks sidelined, Sacramento has leaned on rookie Maxime Raynaud, who recently posted career highs of 29 points and 11 rebounds in an overtime loss to Portland.
