Sacramento Kings center Drew Eubanks is facing a setback after being diagnosed with an avulsion fracture in his left thumb, an injury that will keep him sidelined for the near future.

According to Sean Cunningham of KCRA News in Sacramento, Eubanks is expected to be reevaluated in roughly three weeks as the team monitors his recovery.

The injury happened during Thursday night’s loss to the Denver Nuggets, when Eubanks exited the game early after logging only four minutes on the floor.

Further testing followed, and an MRI conducted on Saturday confirmed the fracture, clarifying both the nature and the severity of the issue.

Eubanks had recently been thrust into a larger role after starting center Domantas Sabonis went down with a torn meniscus in mid-November.

While Eubanks initially stepped into the starting lineup, rookie big man Maxime Raynaud has since emerged as a productive option.

Over the past three games, Raynaud has taken over the starting spot and delivered strong performances, averaging 13.3 points and 9.0 rebounds during that span.

Now in his first season with Sacramento, Eubanks signed a one-year, minimum-salary deal over the summer.

The 28-year-old has played in 25 games for the Kings, earning 11 starts and contributing 5.3 points and 2.8 rebounds in 14.4 minutes per game while converting an efficient 61.5 percent of his shots from the field.

The Kings represent Eubanks’ sixth NBA team in eight seasons.

He joined Sacramento after being traded from the Jazz to the Clippers at last year’s trade deadline, then entering free agency when Los Angeles waived him in July to avoid guaranteeing his $4.5 million salary.
