Cooper Flagg reflected on his aggressive approach after the Dallas Mavericks’ 119–111 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Friday at American Airlines Center. Flagg admitted that the six-day layoff left him “a little winded” but said he worked his way into the game while focusing on reading defenses and making the right plays.
“I just tried to be aggressive, find mismatches, and make the right play,” Flagg said, highlighting his mindset while scoring 22 points and distributing eight assists.
Flagg’s comfort finishing with both hands stood out in the win. “My left hand is something I’ve always been comfortable with. Being able to go both ways opens up the floor and lets me find gaps to drive to,” he explained.
He credited his energy and defensive intensity to a lifelong commitment to giving 100% effort. “Playing hard is something I pride myself on, every day, since I was young,” Flagg said, referencing sequences like his block on Day’Ron Sharpe and immediate layup on the other end.
Flagg also praised Anthony Davis’ court awareness and leadership. “He knows when to attack, when to pass, and where everyone is on the court. I trust him to make the right play every time,” he said, noting how Davis’ 20 second-half points and 14 rebounds were pivotal.
The young guard reflected on his growth from a brief stint at point guard earlier in the season. “It helped me learn what it takes to lead a team and get everyone organized. That experience has definitely contributed to my growth this season,” Flagg said.
Flagg emphasized the importance of his teammates’ shooting in creating space. “Max and Klay are guys I want to know where they are at all times. Finding them for open shots makes a big difference,” he said, highlighting Mavericks’ ball movement and floor spacing.
With the win, Dallas improved to 10–16, marking two straight home victories for the first time this season. The Mavericks outscored Brooklyn 66–44 in the paint despite missing key big men, with Flagg’s playmaking and finishing keeping the offense balanced.
Dallas will continue a three-game road stretch in Utah on Monday, while the Nets fall to 6–18 and will host the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday.
