Houston Rockets head coach Ime Udoka credited his team’s balanced effort in the 115-113 win against the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday.

“It was a full team effort. A lot of guys stepped up… we feel our depth and versatility allow us to not just rely on one guy,” Udoka said, highlighting contributions from multiple players.

Udoka noted the impact of Kevin Durant’s presence on the floor. “Teams are going to go after them and make others make them prove it… if they want to give us a numbers advantage, [Alperen Sengun] is going to find them in this spot, or score it himself,” he explained, emphasizing how Durant creates opportunities for teammates.

The coach praised Houston’s offensive rebounding, which proved critical in the closing seconds. “We basically doubled up… when we’re turning the ball over at that high rate, we want to get some back. Our guards had a concerted effort to crash from the perimeter a little bit more tonight,” Udoka said.

Udoka also highlighted the contributions of Reed Sheppard and Aaron Holiday. “They injected some juice into the game, pace and aggressiveness… just gave them kudos for what they did to change the tempo and pace,” he said, reflecting on the team’s late-game surge.

Regarding discipline, Udoka noted the team’s success in limiting Clippers star James Harden. “We focused on keeping him off the free-throw line… decent for the most part,” he said, pointing to defensive adjustments that contributed to Houston’s win.

Udoka singled out Sheppard’s development as a playmaker. “Being able to read the pocket or the skip pass is big. He made some really nice passes… his next step in evolution is creating that space,” Udoka said, connecting individual growth to team success.

The coach praised Houston’s ability to handle physicality from Ivica Zubac. “He’s a big body… we’re switching matchups to put Alpi on Dunn, so Jabari has his hands full. We knew he was going to get his touches, and we’re willing to live with that,” Udoka said.

In the game, Amen Thompson delivered a key three-point play in the final 17 seconds, finishing with 20 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. Alperen Sengun added 22 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, and four steals, while Jabari Smith Jr. contributed 18 points. Durant scored 16, and the Rockets outrebounded the Clippers 51-28, dominating inside.

Ivica Zubac led the Clippers with 33 points and seven rebounds, while Kawhi Leonard scored 24 and James Harden added 22. Los Angeles had two late chances to tie the game but failed to convert on crucial possessions.

Houston will face the Denver Nuggets on Monday, while the Clippers look to end their slump against Memphis.
