Ja Morant is signaling a renewed focus with the Memphis Grizzlies as the 2025-26 season unfolds. Sam Amick on Run It Back noted that Morant, even while recovering from an ankle injury, has been actively coaching teammates and engaging with head coach Tuomas Iisalo on the playboard.

The Grizzlies have struggled out of the gate, holding an 11-13 record and sitting 9th in the Western Conference. Morant’s production has fluctuated, averaging 17.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 7.6 assists per game, shooting 35.9% from the field and 16.7% from three-point range.

Memphis has seen highs and lows from their star guard, including a 35-point performance against New Orleans on October 22 and 28 points versus Phoenix a week later, contrasted with an eight-point game against the Lakers on October 31. Early-season frustrations led to a one-game suspension after a locker room clash with Iisalo.

Despite trade speculation and public concerns about chemistry, general manager Zach Kleiman has reportedly shown little interest in moving Morant. Amick highlighted that both Morant and his camp “are trying to push this thing through,” demonstrating a willingness to stabilize the team.

Other Grizzlies contributors have stepped up in Morant’s absence, with Jaren Jackson Jr. averaging 17.0 points and 5.0 rebounds and Zach Edey contributing 13.6 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. Cedric Coward and Santi Aldama are providing additional frontcourt support, helping the team navigate a turbulent season.
