The Dallas Mavericks secured a 118-108 victory over the Miami Heat on Wednesday at American Airlines Center, extending their first winning streak of the season to three games. Rookie Cooper Flagg led the charge with 22 points, while Anthony Davis added a double-double of 17 points and 17 rebounds.

Coach Jason Kidd praised the team’s offensive balance, noting, “Seven guys in scoring the ball, the ball’s moving… and the bench scoring with Klay coming off the bench and giving us a spark was big.” Ryan Nembhard contributed 15 points and a career-high 13 assists, continuing his strong early-season play.

Kidd highlighted the Mavericks’ ability to navigate Miami’s defensive schemes, explaining, “Their zone worked, slowed us down. We have to be better… but a lot of good things still to keep the lead.” He emphasized the importance of maintaining pace and creating opportunities on both ends of the floor despite the Heat’s pressure.

Cooper Flagg’s impact extended beyond scoring, with Kidd noting his defensive contributions and clutch play. “He’s been big for us… understanding offensively being able to score and then defensively coming up with a big block,” Kidd said, acknowledging Flagg’s poise even when playing with three fouls.

Davis also drew praise for his improved mobility and presence on both ends. “He’s comfortable… being able to block shots and rebound for us and then be able to guard one-on-one,” Kidd said, adding that Davis’ ability to create baskets down the stretch was key in maintaining the lead.

Kidd reflected on the team’s evolving lineup, particularly pairing D’Angelo Russell with a point guard. “When you have BWill or Ryan with him, letting those guys be able to make the plays for him… he’s flourished in this new role,” Kidd noted. This adjustment has allowed the Mavericks to maximize Russell’s shooting and playmaking ability.

The Mavericks overcame injury setbacks, including Daniel Gafford exiting with a left ankle issue and Tyler Herro missing the second half for Miami. Dallas combined teamwork, defensive intensity, and balanced scoring to maintain control, with their last eight points coming from Davis and Flagg after Miami cut the deficit to four.

Dallas shot 51% from the field and connected on 16-of-32 from three-point range, while outrebounding Miami 50-41. Kidd emphasized the importance of executing fundamentals and trusting the roster depth, saying the team’s balance and shared responsibility are setting the tone for continued success.

The Mavericks will look to extend their winning streak against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday, while the Heat aim to regroup against the Orlando Magic.
