The Suns entered Saturday’s matchup with Denver unsure whether Mark Williams or Ryan Dunn would be able to suit up, but both players were ultimately ruled out before tipoff.
Williams had been dealing with right calf soreness that surfaced late in Friday’s game against Oklahoma City, while Dunn continued recovering from a right wrist sprain that has already kept him out of five straight contests.
Prior to the game, head coach Jordan Ott addressed where each player stood, offering some clarity on their situations. When speaking about Williams, Ott explained that the center’s previous issue – a right knee problem – had shown encouraging improvement.
“The (right) knee was doing well,” Ott said. “Something independently just popped up (during Friday’s loss at OKC) with the calf. Don’t think it’s too serious. We want to play the long game with him. He’s done a great job of building back up and being available for us.”
As for Dunn, the rookie wing has been sidelined for less than a week, yet the Suns remain optimistic that his absence won’t extend much longer.
Ott said the first-rounder is trending in the right direction physically, noting that recovery hinges on how well he can manage discomfort and regain functional movement in the injured wrist.
“He’s in a good place. He’s only been out six or seven days, however (long) it’s been,” Ott explained. “It’s just a pain tolerance, flexibility. Of course it’s the shooting wrist. Things are in a good place. We’ll continue to assess, but I would imagine it’s relatively soon (when he returns).”
