The Pistons provided an update on Marcus Sasser on Monday, revealing that the third-year guard has been sent to the G League for practice work with the Motor City Cruise.
The move, noted in a team announcement shared on Twitter by Hunter Patterson of The Athletic, represents the first step forward for Sasser since he suffered a right hip impingement during the preseason, an injury that has kept him completely sidelined through the early portion of the 2025/26 campaign.
Detroit initially stated a little more than three weeks ago that Sasser would be reevaluated in roughly a month. With that checkup approaching, the organization is gradually ramping up his activity level.
His participation in G League practices signals that medical staff are comfortable allowing him to take on live-action preparation, a promising indication that he may not be too far away from returning to Pistons game action as well.
Sasser, now 25, impressed as a rookie but experienced a more uneven path last season as his role fluctuated from week to week. He still managed to appear in 57 contests, producing averages of 6.6 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists across 14.2 minutes per game.
His efficiency remained respectable, finishing with shooting marks of .463 from the field, .382 from three-point range, and .843 at the foul line.
